Greetings and salutations, dear reader! it’s been quite a while now since our last post, and this will be a regular moving forward since the departure of dear Jason, this blog will be posting less frequently.

Now, with the housekeeping is all in order, some amazing news popped up yesterday as Bryan Lee O’Malley’s cult hit Scott Pilgrim will be making a comeback with an all new anime adaptation on Netflix later this fall. After more than a decade long hiatus, fans have been starving for anything new (myself included).

According news reports that Netflix plans on adapting O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novels into an eight-part anime series. What’s more interesting is that Edgar Wright, director of the 2010 live-action adaptation will be an executive producer on the series, and has brought back many of the original cast to reprise their roles.

In case you’ve forgotten or just unaware, the whole premise of Scott Pilgrim revolves around our titular character as he battles the seven deadly exes of Ramona Flowers, a ninja-delivery girl and the object of Scott’s affection.

For fans of the franchise, this new anime titles “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” will be adapting the six-volume graphic novels in animated format- while not much is known whether there will be new elements added to story or will close follow to the original’s plot, especially O’Malley and Wright working closely on the production.

Speaking of production, Japanese animation studio Science SARU known for titles such as Inu-Oh, Devilman Crybaby, and two Star Wars: Visions shorts will be animating the series. Also, judging from the trailer below, the studio has kept to O’Malley’s original art style, while pushing the boundaries of what he accomplished on paper.

I’ve watched the trailer close to a dozen times by now, and all I can say it looks amazing! For fans of the comic and movie (like myself), there’s plenty of references and call backs. We get Sex Bob-Omb playing very similar to the opening in the movie (albeit with a new song), shots of Ramona doing her own thing while our hero Scott looks on slack-jawed, and its all making use of it’s video homages with bleeps and booping sound effects as Scott battles the evil exes.If the trailer is to be believed, the anime will something the movie glanced over, adapting story arcs and battles the live-action movie omitted.

Also, from the trailer, it seems that Scott’s ex-girlfriend Envy Adams (Brie Larson) will have a prominent role in the anime. What’s more of a surprise is the inclusion of Lisa Miller who was totally omitted from the live-action movie and was only seen Vs. The Animation by Adult Swim will be returning. As for characters who will be making their debut is Knives Chau’s sword wielding dad, Mr. Chau.

Fans have been clamoring for a sequel for years now, and while that is very unlikely, but this Netflix adaptation has been a welcome treat. So, with just a few more months before the released, this is something to look forward to in the fall later this year.
